Bio:

“Toshiro-sama tells me I remind him of his daughter, but he has no daughter. I have heard him speak longingly of an Akodo Tamaki when he has had too much sake, but no one I’ve spoken with will say anything of her. Mother will only smile when I ask her about this peculiar compliment. She’s hiding something, I know it.”

Moshi Akemi was born in the Valley of the Centipede, Tani Senshio. Akemi’s mother is Moshi Haruko, a high ranking shugenja in the Temple of Lady Sun. Her father is Moshi Koin, also a shugenja who helps maintain the libraries of the Moshi Family. Akemi has only one other sibling, a brother who is 10 years old.

Akemi’s childhood is one of duty, as growing up in the unforgiving Mountains of Regret did not afford ample leisure or luxury. However, it was clear from an early age that the kami held special favor for her. Whether it was small windstorms that followed her displeasure, or her walking without her feet touching the ground, she was rippling with the touch of the kami. Shortly after her Gempukku, she joined her mother as part of an envoy to Kyuden Doji for a special celebration of the Chrysanthemum Festival. The Centipede were invited for their unique ceremony to celebrate Amaterasu as the sun rises over the eastern sea.

It was here that she drew the attention of many young Crane, each trying to outdo the others for her attention. Clearly she was overwhelmed, and an older Kitsune shugenja stepped in to her aid. His boisterous decries of “You approach my daughter without my consent, is this what you call honor?” drew much attention and the young Cranes bowed and apologized before escaping the scene. The Kitsune laughed and then apologized to her as Akemi’s mother, Haruko, came to see what the commotion was. The man introduced himself as Kitsune Toshiro, to both his and Akemi’s surprise her mother laughed and greeted him as an old friend. It seems that Toshiro had met Haruko as a young girl in Tani Senshio, and entertained her with some Pika, whom he later built a tiny earth shrine for.

The three of them later adjourned for tea, and when Toshiro talked of having a small temple on the outskirts of Crane lands, Haruko immediately asked if he had room to take on Akemi. The most shocked was Akemi, she had no intention of leaving her home, but Toshiro was very happy to take the young woman under his care. So it was settled that Akemi would depart Tani Senshio when Toshiro came to escort her to his temple.
